Spering Can Help Fairfield
Daily Republic (Fairfield) - May 30, 2006

I have been a resident of Fairfield for the past 23 years. My wife and I have been raising our three sons in Fairfield. The crime has been getting worse. After reading the Daily Republic last week, I feel that Jim Spering understands the issue of finding a solution to our crime problem, while Karin MacMillan isn't making it an issue or trying to solve this problem.

Fairfield Councilmen Frank Kardos and John Mraz called all Fairfield residents to action. We can't let our fear of gangs and the criminal element dictate our lifestyle. The crime problem has to be solved.

Jim Spering is the one who can help solve it.

Vote for Spering for Supervisor
Daily Republic (Fairfield) - May 29, 2006

A person has a right to support a candidate that has the wherewithal and the ability to accomplish essential tasks. Congresswoman Ellen Tausher is supporting Suisun City mayor Jim Spering because he has performed exceptionally well as mayor, serving on various committees that have shown remarkable results. I wholeheartedly support Jim Spering to succeed District 3 because he is the most informed candidate.

Spering has been in the trenches, using problem-solving techniques and decision making processes that have played a positive role. These are traits that District 3 requires.

Spering for Supervisor
The Reporter (Vacaville) - May 27, 2006

The race for District 3 Solano County supervisor pits mayor vs. mayor. But the differences in track records, philosophies, agenda for the future and personalities clearly make Jim Spering the right choice on June 6.

As mayor of Suisun City for two decades, Mr. Spering guided an extraordinary turnaround, taking a city wracked by blight and crime and leading it into the 21st century.

While his city suffers the same economic woes as other cities face, no one can credibly argue that Suisun City is the same, or worse, than it was when Mr. Spering took office. It has received national recognition for its innovative housing in a core area that has a bright new City Hall and attractive waterfront.

Spering for Supervisor
Daily Republic (Fairfield) - May 26, 2006

The Daily Republic endorses Jim Spering for Solano County Supervisor, District 3, based on his leadership, independent thinking and track record as mayor of Suisun City.

As mayor, he took a town known for crime and blight and has redeveloped it into something citizens can be proud of - including a new City Hall and a welcoming water front.

Crime is number one on his list of issues - and rightly so. He wants to use his county position to help create a full-time team at the sheriff's office that can help cities deal with gang violence no matter where it strikes. This regional approach to combating crime is needed if we are to not just move the problem from city to city.

Jim Spering
The Reporter (Vacaville) - May 26, 2006

On May 26, 2006, The Reporter published a question-and-answer profile of Jim Spering.

Name: Jim Spering
City of Residence: Suisun City
Occupation: Mayor/Businessman
Campaign Coordinator: Amit Pal
Website: www.jimspering.com

What do you believe this elected job entails?
In additions to the state mandated requirements I feel the county plays an important role in fighting crime, managing growth and the development of a county transportation infrastructure program.

My top three issues are:
* The establishment of a Sheriff's department drug and gang crime unit fully funded and dedicated to fighting drug and gang crime throughout Solano County.
* Establish a county transportation plan to maintain and provide safe county streets and roads, including roads that support Travis AFB.
* Creation of good paying jobs, a healthy economy and affordable housing so our children and grandchildren can live in Solano County.

This Politician Offers Ideas for Farms' Survival
Catherine Moy - The Reporter (Vacaville) - March 25, 2006

Jim Spering stood in a vacant fruit stand on Abernathy Road in Suisun Valley. It was mid-morning on Tuesday and Suisun City's mayor had come to listen to the concerns of Solano County farmers. About 30 farmers and ranchers took a break from their labor and showed up in their Ford and Chevrolet pickups. They were ready to talk.

Spering, who is a candidate for the Solano County Board of Supervisors, told the folks that he needed to learn from the people who work the land in Solano County; the people who now struggle to survive on land that, for some, has been their family's sole source of income for generations.
